Leytonstone Elim 1 – 2 Tollington Park

TP kept up their record of winning every first game of the season in their four year history with a fortunate 2-1 win over Leytonstone Elim.

TP got the game underway and dominated the early stages and Calvin was not far away with an audacious effort from the half way line which had the opposition keeper scrambling.

TP took the lead midway through the first half when Gus latched onto a loose ball and slammed it passed the opposition goalkeeper, scoring a debut goal.

Leytonstone were completely out of the game with Calvin and James bossing the central midfield and feeding Gus up front. At the other end the defence was solid with Trevor organising the defence and David and Ian clearing with ease. The full backs Dwayne and Jesse were pushing on and just before halftime, TP were caught on the break. A diagonal, looping ball sent over the TP towards Trevor who lept to claim with an Elim Striker. Trevor seemed to have two hands on the ball when the striker made contact but nevertheless the goal was given and TP went in level.

The second half began scrappily with both sides sloppily passing the ball. TP had a slice of fortune when a ball was played wide right by James and Nat ran past a defender and crossed in towards Gus. An Elim defender knocked the ball passed his own keeper for 1-2.

After that TP chased and hustled and managed to grind out a result with Jesse clearing a goal bound header of the line in the dying stages.
